Our Work
Mobile Holistic Healing Services Inc is a Non-profit organization providing comprehensive wellness services to Southwest/West Philadelphia. We want to target some of the factors causing chronic diseases in low-income communities; poverty, stress, lack of exercise, etc. We provide access to community resources which assist with social determinants of health via this website, booklets, and at community events. We also provide opportunities for exercise with our guided mindful community nature walks at John Heinz National Wildlife Refugee and we provide opportunities for stress management with our free community yoga, meditation, sound bath and painting events throughout the areas being served.
The organization was formed because of the current need in our city. According to phila.gov, among counties that contain the nation’s largest cities, Philadelphia has the highest rates of premature death, infant and child mortality, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, HIV, and homicide.
Philadelphia also has the highest poverty rate of the 10 major cities in the U.S. People living in poverty are more likely to develop the chronic diseases that are the leading causes of death and to have shorter life spans. U.S. health care spending grew 4.1 percent in 2022, reaching $4.5 trillion or $13,493 per person, which is twice the average amount other developed countries spend on healthcare. Despite the high healthcare spending, we have some of the poorest health outcomes compared to other developed countries with the lowest life expectancy at birth, the highest death rates for avoidable or treatable conditions, the highest maternal and infant mortality, and among the highest suicide rates. Some factors impacting
health includes clinical care, social and economic factors, education, health behaviors, genetics, social support, physical environment, etc.
